What to do in and around Kufstein
For those wishing to stay a bit longer in Tyrol before or after the wedding, we can highly recommend some of the following activities so as to get the most out of your time here.
Kufstein fortress (aka the inspiration for our wedding invitation)
Right above the wedding location you'll find "one of the most visited sights for 800 years" (their words, not ours). A good spot to grab a spectacular view of the Inn-valley and dab a little into local history.
A lot of skiing areas are easy to get to from Kufstein. The closest is the "Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser" which is the largest (and according to unbiased Vera) the best skiing area. Equipment can be rented and there are handsome ski-instructors to train people of all ages.
Excellent waterpark for the adrenal junkies wanting to try the double looping slide but also for those wanting to enjoy a relaxing day at the spa.
Tucked away in the Alps and less than an hour away by train from Kufstein, Innsbruck is worth visiting just for it's old city centre alone.
Whether you like, hate or are unaware of Svarovski crystals *cough*glass*cough*, this museum dedicated to all things sparkly is truly one-of-a-kind.
A little further away than Innsbruck (1.5h by train), but a must do as Austria’s cultural capital (if you believe the "Sound of Music followers") and if you want to get the full Mozart experience.
Sledding at the world's longest toboggan run
Getting there requires a car (about an hour ride) but it still remains one of Carel's and Vera's favourite activities. Once you're in the area, also go check out the Krimmler Waterfalls, the biggest waterfalls of Europe.
